Living a Big Life

Updated: May 20

Abundant Living

See, I am one of those people that believe that in order to live abundantly I have to constantly be going and be busy but that isn’t the case. Living abundantly is having a life and actually living it, enjoying it and that is what I am working on to change this month.

If you look up the word abundant it means, “existing or available in large quantities; plentiful.” Jesus says in John 10:10, “A thief comes only to steal and to kill and to destroy. I have come so that they may have life and have it in abundance.” Jesus came so that we could have life and in abundance. He came so that we might have a big life.

God is calling you to a big life…

…but what does that mean?

Well for one, we are to no longer be in the old. We are to be made new. We are to be living a life full of purpose for Him and of His promises. Another thing is that we must live a life of worship. Worship is not necessarily a musical action- it’s the life we should be living. Our life should be a constant worship of the King. Thirdly, we must give. A life of abundance is not greedy. We are promised we will receive abundance so we give and we know we will be given greater in return.

  • But He answered, “It is written: Man must not live on bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.” (Matthew 4:4)

  • But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be provided for you. (Matthew 6:33)

  • You reveal the path of life to me; in Your presence is abundant joy; in Your right hand are eternal pleasures. (Psalm 16:11)

You know what is crazy? Jesus laid down HIS life so that we could be in a constant state of overflow. Yes we will have hard times but those hard times and suffering are what lead to the big moments where we remember what He has done in the past and what He has promised us.

  • Consider it a great joy, my brothers, whenever you experience various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces endurance. But endurance must do its complete work, so that you may be mature and complete, lacking nothing. (James 1:2-4)

  • Dear friends, don’t be surprised when the fiery ordeal comes among you to test you as if something unusual were happening to you. (1 Peter 4:12)

What are you letting fill you to where you can’t fully focus on God and let Him give you an abundant life?

Are you being honest with God and praying to Him so that He might fill the hole that is lacking?

What is holding you back from abundant living?
